Haydn Fantasies for John McCabe was specially commissioned to mark the seventieth birthday of John McCabe and the bicentenary of the death of Joseph Haydn.
McCabe's name is inelibly linked with that of Haydn - not least because of the monumental and exemplary recordings of the complete Haydn Sonatas for Decca in the 1970s. This association has been affectionately reflected in seven works by James Francis Brown, Peter Fribbins, John Hawkins, David Matthews, Alan Mills, Matthew Taylor and Hugh Wood.
